Jodie McGarity, Jr.
Head Coach, Varsity Boys, and Varsity Girls
Jodie was raised in San Antonio, TX, and is entering his 20th season as a professional basketball coach, his third at the helm of the Central Texas Saints program. In 2019, he was able to help the varsity girls team to a Silver Ball at the NCHBC during the program’s first year of existence and saw a great improvement in the skill level of both the girls and boys teams. Last season, our varsity finished 5th overall in the NCHBC Big South Regional and 11th nationally.
He was the Austin Royals varsity boys basketball coach for nearly a decade, served as junior varsity head coach for Hyde Park High School and also spent time coaching multiple sports in the Del Valle ISD. He’s consistently coached both girls and boys AAU teams and started his own program, Austin Disciples, last year.
As a player, he was chosen for both the All-City and All-State teams as a senior at Sam Houston High School. This allowed him to become a scholarship athlete at the collegiate level, first for Temple College (Temple, TX), and then for California State – San Bernardino and Huston-Tillotson University. He averaged 20.7 points and 10.6 rebounds during his senior year at HTU and was chosen Big State Conference MVP after recording an astounding 25 double-doubles in 27 games.
He spent his professional career with the Austin Cyclones from 1999-2002, where he was a first-team all-conference each year. After receiving offers to play in Spain and Lebanon, he chose to remain in the Austin area to focus on coaching.
Jodie has four children. He has also operated Texas Disciples Sports Performance for over 10 years, is a mentor to dozens of youth from around the Austin area, and is a huge San Antonio Spurs fan.
Assistant Varsity Girls Coach
Cheri grew up in the northeast and has been an Austin resident for 25 years. Although she played many sports in high school and college, basketball was always her favorite. She has been coaching elementary through high school-aged teams for the last four years. Cheri is a fervent believer that strong fundamental skills and repetition are the keys to developing strong basketball players. During games, she will usually be found encouraging players on the bench, in both good times and bad, and loves to celebrate improvement with them.
Cheri is married to Michael and they have six children whom she has been homeschooling since 2001. She has a degree in biology with a minor in English.
